The following is a partial list of some of our programs and workshops.  We have numerous other topic areas available; please contact us with additional requests..

Programs may be customized in various ways, e.g., by combining programs and modules of programs, adding or deleting program modules, etc.  We will customize what you need to get the results you want.

Advanced American English Skills - Proper conversational pronunciation, spelling, writing, grammar, and clear communication are essential in business.  Interactive exercises, designed for both English as a Second Language (ESL) and English as a First Language (EFL) participants, help (1) increase confidence when speaking, (2) improve clarity, (3) minimize problems with accents and dialects, and (4) improve listener understanding and respect.  An overview of proper punctuation and grammar usage is also included.

Advanced Note-making Skills - Quickly and easily document, record, create, plan, organize, and enhance memory through recall diagrams and visual associations.

Advanced Reading and Learning Skills - Reduce desk stress, conquer information overload, and stay current by applying proven processes to acquire twice the information and knowledge in half the time.  Spend more time producing and less time keeping up.

Balance Your Life - Design a professional and personal game plan. Identify areas of life that are being neglected and/or causing dissatisfaction. Turn stress into success.

Building Distinctive Value Propositions - Build trust and long-term relationships with customers.  Help business-to-business sales professionals develop new processes and skills to sell in a complex and competitive business environment.  Program materials are customized to reflect your team’s sales situations.  Strategies include well-proven  processes, developed from programs run successfully for top I.T. companies, including Alcatel-Lucent, Amdahl/Fujitsu, Cisco, IBM, Microsoft, Nortel, and Siemens.

Building Marketing and Sales Channels - Develop successful, long term, win-win  relationships with Channel Partners by helping them increase their revenues, market share, and customer satisfaction.  Provide partners with proper sales guidance and help them develop business planning, performance review, and coaching skills.

Computer and Technology Competence - A variety of programs covering computer operations, the most common and frequently used computer programs, internet usage, and the proper and most effective usage of telephone and electronic communication equipment.  As new technology emerges, we teach people how to use it.  Ask us about any technology needs you may have.

Consultative Selling and the Art of Asking Smart Questions - The key to satisfied customers and long-term relationships is understanding their needs and providing solutions to their needs.  Asking smart questions is one of the main steps in the process of professional, consultative selling.

Continuous Improvement - Increase personal and professional effectiveness and performance with assessments and by using strategies to manage time, organize, and prioritize activities.

Creating Customers for Life - Attracting new customers costs six times more than it does to keep existing customers.  These sales boosting strategies, designed to be incorporated into and supplement existing sales processes, strengthen relationships with customers and result in (1) more satisfied customers, (2) more referrals, and (3) more repeat sales.

Emotional Intelligence - Emotional intelligence -- perceiving, recognizing, understanding, and controlling emotions -- impacts thinking, judgment, reactions, productivity, and relationships -- the ability to interact with other people. 

Ethics and Trust - Do it right.  Avoid damaging improprieties and legal problems.  Increase the efficiency and effectiveness of having people work together, whether directly or indirectly.  An environment of high ethics and trust generates more prodcution at a higher quality and in less time.  Set the standards, make it a corporate culture, and watch the business grow.

Etiquette and Protocol Personal and professional social skills.  Many people are unaware of proper etiquette which can impact their promotability and business relationships.  Knowing and exercising proper etiquette and following proper protocol are essential for anyone conducting business in the global marketplace and with people from different cultures.  Topics, which may be customized as needed, include: (1) Business Etiquette and Protocol, (2) International Protocol, (3) Business and Social Written Correspondence, (4) Business and Social Entertaining, and (5) Dining Etiquette  (Note: Etiquette classes are also available for children, teens, and young adults.) 

Helping People Buy - "People hate to be sold,but they love to buy."  This basic truth about human nature serves as the foundation for this powerful program which can result in a significant increase in sales.  It transforms the old model and image of sales and even enables people who would not otherwise consider a sales career to become top producers.

Increase closing ratios, generate referrals, and create customers for life. 

Leadership and Advanced Leadership Skills - Effective skills, systems, and strategies for ascending leaders and senior leaders. Increase competencies to lead, inspire, and motivate individuals and teams to heightened cooperation and productivity. Learn keys to understanding people, predicting behaviors, and improving communications and relationships. Create an ethical work environment that (1) builds and maintains mutual respect and trust, (2) develops creativity and collaboration, and (3) energizes team members.  (Note: This program is modified to address needs of leaders at different levels in an organization.)

Listening Skills and Mouth Management - Not merely hearing, but listening to understand – the first step in good communication. What we say and how we say it determines our success and impacts our life, both personally and professionally.

Management Skills - Skills managers need to (1) reinforce training and (2) lead and coach their teams to peak performance and productivity.

Meeting Management - Strategies and templates to participate in or conduct more effective meetings in half the time.  Covers all types of meetings, e.g., in-person, teleconferences, and web-based.

Negotiating, Problem Solving, and Conflict Resolution - Proven strategies to produce mutually acceptable agreements and to identify, prevent, and resolve problems.

Non-profit Board Leadership and Capacity Building - Build, strengthen, and improve the effectiveness of your board.  Ensure long-term board success with a systematic approach to board development and organizational growth.  Program focuses on and addresses organizational evaluation and development, strategic planning, fundraising, orientation, training, evaluation, new member recruiting and development, committees, task forces, advisory groups, etc.  An effective, productive board is essential to long-term success and growth and the ability to continue to carry out and expand the services of the organization.  

Personality Types: Understanding and Communicating with Different Types of People - The key to effective communications is for the people to be "on the same frequency."  Being "on the same frequency" is determined by their personality type preferences, which determine (1) how people communicate, (2) what is important to them, (3) how they process information, (4) what information they focus on, (5) what information they tend to ignore, (6) how they make decisions, etc.

Understanding and recognizing other people's personality types allows participants to adapt and communicate with them on their "frequency."  This avoids communication breakdowns and improves professional and personal relationships. 

Physical Fitness - The only thing that wears out from lack of use is the human body.  American Learning has programs for people at all levels of physical fitness in all age groups – from young children to people 80 years old and beyond.  Exercise programs, designed and led by certified personal trainers, are available.  Tai Chi and Yoga programs, designed and led by certified instructors are also available.  (See Tai Chi and Yoga programs below)

Phonics for Adults - Correct conversational pronunciation, spelling, writing, and grammar. Communicating clearly and effectively in spoken English is essential. Presentation Skills - Strategies for business professionals to prepare and present ideas and information precisely and confidently in a variety of settings.

Professional Journaling - Eliminate ineffective and "hit and miss" note-making with the professional way to make a written record of conversations, meetings, etc. for easy reference, documentation, and protection.

Project Management - Processes for increased results from creation of the idea through implementation and successful completion of a project to meet deadlines.  Reduces stress and helps prevent operating under pressure in a crisis mode.

Quality Customer Service - Learning the keys to keeping clients and customers satisfied is essential to everyone who has any contact with customers.  These strategies are easy to learn, easy to use any situation, and have been taught to employees of a top ranked company known and respected for its customer service.   

Relationship Selling Based on Personality Type Preferences - The science of selling the way people want to buy.  Proven results based on consumer research, human nature, and human behavior.  The key is being able to recognize and understand the customers' personality types in order to more effectively focus the sales process to increase customer relations, meet customer needs, and generate more sales.  This powerful, unique program takes sales professionals to another level. 

Smoking Cessation - Stop smoking forever – the easy way. Participants continue to smoke while learning to become a non-smoker.  In addition of easily resolving the addiction to nicotine without drugs or substitutes, unlike other programs, we address the major problem in smoking – the psychological habit – the reason people resume smoking long after nicotine is no longer an issue.  The psychological aspects of smoking must be addressed properly to enable smokers to become comfortable non-smokers, free of urges and desires to smoke.

Strategic Planning - Effective process for leaders to determine the organization's best direction target destination, identify how it will get there, and establish benchmarks to indicate progress and success.  Some considerations for designing a successful strategic plan will be (1) the nature of the organization's leadership, (2) the culture of the organization, (3) the complexity of the organization's environment, (4) the size of the organization, and (5) the expertise of planners.  Company leaders benefit from our "outside-in perspective" and the expertise we can bring to designing their strategic plan.

Tai Chi - The Mayo clinic reports that Tai Chi, a self-paced system of gentle stretching and exercise, has numerous health benefits, including (1) reducing stress, anxiety, tension, and depression, (2) lowering blood pressure, (3) improving cardiovascular fitness, (4) increasing energy and endurance, (5) improving sleep quality, (6) improving balance, flexibility, and muscle strength, and (7) improving overall feelings of well-being.  On-site or off-site Tai Chi classes can impact the performance and health of participants.

Time Management and Personal Organization - Helps people (1) "do the right thing at the right time," (2) develop good "desk top" and organization skills, and (3) gain control over "Tasks" and "To do" lists.  Addresses the resistance of people who typically avoid an organized system and tend to have the most problems with good time management.  Gives people more control over These easy-to-implement processes help people become more effective and productive rather than merely busy.  

Total Quality Management - Understanding and implementing the processes of TQM saves time, avoids breakdowns and bottlenecks, and increases effectiveness.

Train-the-Trainer - Proven, practical strategies are customized to assist corporate trainers in continuing to improve the design, delivery, results, and management of their programs.  Trainers will be taught how to (1) explain their course's rationale, (2) include practical and realistic exercises, (3) make their programs relevant for diverse audiences, and (4) improve knowledge and skills to enable participants to be more effective and more productive.

Writing Skills for Professionals - Business, technical, and persuasive writing.  Systems, processes, and templates to improve all types of professional writing, including manuals, proposals, reports, presentations, meeting notes/minutes, business correspondence, e.g., letters, "thank you" notes, e-mails, texting, etc.  Tips for proofreading, grammar, and punctuation.  Also may focus on sales and marketing applications. 

Yoga - According to the Mayo Clinic, yoga has numerous health benefits, e.g., stress reduction, increased fitness, management of chronic health conditions, and also helping with weight loss.  In addition, yoga can improve cardiovascular functioning and increase concentration.  These benefits can result in increased productivity and reduced health care costs.  On-site programs include introductory sessions for people not familiar with the benefits of yoga and for people who resist exercise.
